Creatinine (including eGFR) Test

The Creatinine blood test, which includes estimating the Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR), is a diagnostic tool used to assess kidney function. Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscles and filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. Elevated levels of creatinine in the blood may indicate impaired kidney function or kidney disease. The eGFR, calculated using creatinine levels along with factors such as age, sex, and race, provides an estimate of the kidney's ability to filter waste from the blood. A low eGFR suggests reduced kidney function, while a high eGFR may indicate hyperfiltration, commonly seen in certain conditions like diabetes. This blood test is crucial in diagnosing and monitoring kidney diseases, guiding treatment decisions, and assessing overall kidney health.
