Gliadin Antibodies (IgG) (deamidated) Test

This test evaluates the presence of deamidated gliadin antibodies (DMG) in the bloodstream, which react to gliadin, a key component of gluten. It aids in diagnosing celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder characterized by an abnormal immune response to gluten, primarily found in wheat, barley, and rye, as well as in various everyday items like lip balm and medications. In celiac disease, gluten consumption triggers an immune system attack on the small intestine's delicate villi, leading to malnutrition even with a balanced diet. Complications of celiac disease encompass joint pain, bone density reduction, anemia, seizures, and cancer. Majority of untreated celiac disease cases typically exhibit elevated DMG antibody levels, contrasting with the rare occurrence in individuals without the condition.
