Helicobacter pylori infection is the cause of most stomach and duodenal ulcers and can be confirmed by a blood test. Moreover, H. pylori alterations of the mucosa have been implicated in the development of gastric cancer.
Who is this test for?
- For individuals who suffer from repeated indigestion symptoms
- For people with past history of gastric ulcer who have not previously been tested,
- For people who are taking, or are about to take, long-term anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, aspirin, etc

A blood test can detect antibodies to H. pylori. Fasting is not required for this test

Special instructions:
Stool antigen test rather than blood test is usually used to check if an infection has cleared following treatment.
