The phosphatidylethanol (PEth) blood test is a reliable method for detecting chronic excessive drinking behavior characterized by regular daily alcohol intake. PEth is a stable and sensitive marker formed exclusively after alcohol consumption, making it highly specific for assessing alcohol intake. Results from this test are typically available within 5-7 days.

PEth testing offers a comprehensive evaluation of alcohol consumption history, providing valuable insights into chronic, moderate, or low alcohol intake patterns, as well as periods of abstinence. As the most conclusive blood alcohol test available, PEth testing detects the presence of PEth, a direct biomarker of alcohol, in the bloodstream. When combined with other blood alcohol tests such as Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT), Liver Function Tests (LFT), and Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) tests, a more comprehensive understanding of an individual's drinking habits can be obtained.
